Spiral Stairs released a new single this afternoon, and it’ll rope you in from the first downbeat.

Scott Kannberg is known for his work in ’90s indie rock band Pavement, but his solo project, Spiral Stairs, deserves every bit as much attention. “Hyp-no-tized” soars with roaring horns and groovin’ rhythms, but Kannberg’s latest single is just a taste of things to come. Spiral Stairs’ third album, We Wanna Be Hyp-No-Tized, will be released on March 22nd through The Nine Mile Records. Expect some rollicking shows later in the year.

We Wanna Be Hyp-No-Tized rings with infectious energy. While crafting this album, Spiral Stairs looked back on some the artists that he missed during his Pavement days.

“In my early-twenties I felt like I knew everything – I always knew about new bands before everyone else – but that kind of closed off a lot of bands that I didn’t give much credence to, and now I’m a bit older and it’s, like, ‘Wow, how did I miss that?’ Spiral Stairs said in a press release.

You’ll definitely hear some classic rock ‘n roll influences on this new album.

“I think the influences on this are definitely Nick Lowe and Van Morrison – I even tried to sing like Van Morrison on a lot of the songs,” Spiral Stairs said. “Those are the kind of bands I would never have liked in 1984… or 1994… or 2004 really.”
